It’s been a while

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Hello,

I know I’ve been MIA for a little bit.  It’s because I’ve been busy.

Between clients, planning for a big thing coming up and family, I lost track of time.

So I’ll tell you about what I’ve done this morning.  I made soup.  According to Little Miss, soup fixes everything.

So here’s today’s soup recipe.

Thai inspired sweet potato and pumpkin soup.

1 large sweet potato

500gms of Butternut pumpkin

1 stick of lemongrass

1 medium onion

1 bunch of coriander

1 knob of ginger

2 cups of stock

1 small can of coconut milk

Spray of cooking oil.

Chop up the onion, lemon grass, ginger and the roots and stems of the coriander finely.

Cube the sweet potato and pumpkin.

Spray pot with the cooking oil.  Fry off the onion, lemon grass, ginger, coriander roots.  Add the pumpkin and potato and cook until slightly coloured.

Add stock plus a little extra water.  Simmer until pumpkin and potato are soft.  Add coconut milk and blitz with a stick blender until really smooth.

Add the coriander leaves and serve.

Very tasty.  You can also add in some chili if you wish.

Enjoy.

Would you believe?

I have been busy.

Between footy (all three teams won but another batch of crap injuries) and Mother’s Day, I’ve been run off my feet.

My parents visited this weekend which is nice.  Shame I was working the whole time.  Still they got to spend some quality time with Little Miss.

I had a wonderful client yesterday who was telling me about her customs, traditions and rituals.  I love this sort of information.  Not surprisingly, much of it revolved around food and family.

So today is a rest day for my hands and I’m back working again tomorrow.

Mum’s Night Out is on Friday night and tickets are still available.  Would really love to see you there.  I’ll be massaging away.

Ahhh, Friday again

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Hi,

Friday’s are my day off.  For today I had planned on going out for lunch and then going to a park and letting Little Miss go nuts.  Didn’t happen.  Instead she just wanted mummy cuddles and to watch “Ye Ha!”  A free half hour massage for the first person to guess correctly what she wanted to watch.

Anyway, in the mix, I did manage to get some washing done and managed to fall asleep while her movie of choice was on.  I’d also managed to forget to turn the phone off silent and just discovered three messages.  Nothing urgent and made me think about those strapped to their blackberries and the like as if they’re life support.  Hubby calls them crackberries.

I keep hearing how people have to read every email, answer every call and respond really quickly even if its not really important.  They tell me every thing’s important.  These are the same people who can’t relax, have a day off, drive their cars or, in one case I know of, give birth without phone calls/emails from work.  They tell me they have no time.

Let me help you out here.  There’s a little button on the device.  It has a circle with a line in it.  It makes the device turn off.  Magic isn’t it.  That’s right, you can do it.  This next step is important.  Leave it off for at least an hour and at night.  The world will not explode and here’s something really interesting, if you wait and not respond to every little email/message/call, it gives you a chance to look at them all in one hit.  You can then decide what needs doing straight away, find out it’s been sorted/done by someone else or not needed at all.  You can prioritise and delegate.  Your boss will learn how to put paper in the photocopier when you’re not there, your partner will find whatever they can’t find right under their nose, your friends will call you back or leave a message about whatever and the best, you won’t get the really time wasting cold calling sales people.  Sounds great doesn’t it.  If a client really wants to talk to you, they will leave a message or call you back.  Another bonus, eliminates tyre kickers and time wasters!

When you come for a massage, I insist you turn your mobile devices off.  I find the ring tones and buzzes annoying and distracting whilst I’m working and you’ll be wondering who was calling and if it was important.  You can’t relax and will get little benefit from the massage.  Besides, I like to give you my undivided attention.  That’s the least I can give you.

Give it a shot.  See what happens.

We’re Fine!

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Hello,

Yesterday evening, on the way to pick up hubby from the airport, Little Miss and I were in a car accident.  Not too bad, no injuries but enough to rattle me and do some damage to the other car.  (Our car is a FWD with a bull bar.)  Still, didn’t stop me from feeling like a complete idiot and getting angry with myself.  Told hubby what happened,  apologised for the big bill that’s coming our way and went home to curl up on the couch and give Missy cuddles.  I have now declared I’m not going to the airport unless I’m actually going to fly somewhere.

I opened my diary this morning to discover Sunday is the big photo shoot here.  Hoping to get some really fantastic action shots of me massaging pregnant women.  Can’t wait.  Partially because I’ll be catching up with two friends I haven’t seen in ages, but also because I’m so excited about both of them being pregnant!  You have no idea how happy I am!  I was seriously cheering and dancing around the place when they told me.  So here’s to good light and great hair days.

My wish list

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Hello again.

I’ve decided to let you in on my wish list.  It’s not very long but it’s still impressive.  (Especially as Mother’s Day is only 12 sleeps away).

Wish 1:  Sleep.

Wish 2: New flash massage table that goes up and down.

Wish 3: New wedding ring.  (Lost my wedding ring)

Wish 4: Someone to clean my house.

Wish 5: A Gardener.

Wish 6: Lots of clients.

If you could spread the word about these that would be great.

Once again Little Miss got artistic with my business plan.  Not as impressive as last time though.  Daddy took her to the park yesterday where she made a new friend and didn’t want to come home.  Apparently she didn’t like the low slide, had to climb up the big one.

In work news, I have two spots for in-home massages on the 4Th of may in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.  They are 11am and 12:30pm.  Let me know if you want one of them.

Anzac weekend

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Hello again.

This weekend got off to a great start working with the footy club on Saturday.  It was  the Misiti/Calthorpe cup in the EDFL and YAYthe devils won.  The start of the day didn’t look good with rain but after a bit the sun came out for a while and we managed to stay dry.  Can’t remember the winning margin but that’s ok, I’m fairly sure someone knows.

After the game, Hubby, Little Miss and I caught up with some friends for drinks.  It was nice to just sit around and talk rubbish while the kids went nuts in their playroom.

Anzac day was spent eating lamingtons and taking a bit of a break until operation clear out began and we moved Little Miss’s new big girl bed into her room.  The operation has continued to today with Hubby taking advantage of the public holiday and clearing out his office.

Just checked the countdown and there are only 13 more sleeps to Mother’s day.. hint hint!  Everyday until Mother’s Day the prices are going up.  Get in quickly.

15 more sleeps to Mother’s Day

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Hi,

I know, using the word sleeps around mums is a little bit mean. I have been assured some mums do get sleep.

Still, the Mother’s Day offer is still on.

Point your partner in this direction before the price goes up!

In other news, I decided to get down on paper my business vision yesterday. All good in theory. I had a big piece of paper and a bunch of different coloured pens. I layed down on my office floor and started to write. In the time it took to change the music on the cd player, my little artist daughter decided it really needed more decoration and drew all over my plans. On the bright side. Discovered Little Miss (2.5 years) knows her colours.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Monday

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Hello.  Yes, I know using the name of the day as a title is very boring, but I’m not feeling all bright and shiny today.

I have never been any good at mornings and since I’ve been unable to consume caffeine, mornings have taken on a nastiness.  It just takes a little while for my brain to start functioning, that’s all.

This morning was no different.  I over slept.  Little Miss overslept.  This then means, we’re late.  She was still asleep when she was supposed to be arriving at day care.  Whoops.  I thanked my previous nights forethought for packing up dinners leftovers for her lunch as that was one less thing to get ready.  Eventually after an argument over which socks she was going to wear and a banana for breakfast, she got to care.  Yay.

For the rest of the day, I will be deciding what the future of Hand Print Massage will look like.  I have a big piece of paper, some scissors, a bunch of magazines and a glue stick.  I’m all set.  Might even crack out the coloured pens.  If you have any suggestions, I will consider them.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Friday

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Today is Friday.  Friday is my day off from work.

Friday’s I take Little Miss out to lunch and wander around the shopping centre for a bit or go to the park or something.  Whatever it is.  We get out of the house and away from the computer, TV and phone.

Today, while eating lunch, I was watching a group of sisters catching up.  One of the women had a baby about 7 months old.  It was cheerful, happy little bub and Little Miss was intrigued by her.  At one stage the bub wanted a feed, so the sisters held a blanket up for the mum to have some privacy, sort of.  OK, feeding behind a blanket is nothing new.  I did it on occasion.  Next thing I knew I was laughing at them.  Why?  Because the bub didn’t like the blanket, grabbed it and pulled it off her and her mum.  The three sisters looked at me in horror until I said “Don’t worry.  Little Miss did that to me all the time.”

Not long after this, Little Miss and I had finished our lunch and it was time to go.  We waved goodbye and headed off.

Whilst walking back to the car I started to wonder.  Firstly, why is seeing a breastfeeding mum so uncommon in shopping centres and secondly, why did she feel the need to cover herself and bub up?  Is is a cultural thing that we hide away when breastfeeding.  Is a fear thing?  Are we afraid of offending someone?

Personally I only really covered up once and that was to do with direct sunlight in Little Miss’s eyes.  Little Miss didn’t like not being able to see what was going on and I just couldn’t get the hang of wrapping the blanket around and holding Little Miss while feeding.  In the end I just didn’t care who saw me feeding.

Trials and tribulations

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Today Little Miss was home from day care.  She has a bit of a cold.

Today she decided it would be good to test my patience to the absolute extreme.  From not wanting to eat her breakfast, not wanting to get dressed, wanting a shower straight after having a bath to the absolute peak of the day with a massive mess and me wondering what hit me.  Because today was such a wreak, all the things I needed to get done didn’t.  Magic.

I’m hoping this is just a stage and because she’s not feeling well, but I’ve heard that might not be the case.
