music and stuff

Today, my daughter’s godfather and his soon to be wife came over.  They wanted to pick my brain about music for their wedding.  I agreed because any reason to ensure Pachabel’s cannon was no where to be found, was a good one plus I have an extensive collection of music.

As we went through the suggestions and likes and hates, I started thinking about how music does affect you.  Some of the music we were listening to raised my blood pressure as I remembered being a stressed and nervous oboist about to sit exams or made me smile as I remembered something I was doing when I’d heard that song.

So after much listening, we found a diverse range  of music with featuring songs from favourite movies, songs from favourite music artists and even something randomly heard late one night on the radio.  Granted, it’s not to every one’s taste and it’s no where near traditional, but it’s special and has meaning to both of them.  It’s they’re way of sharing what’s special to them.

Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.

The title of this posting is a Teddy Roosevelt quote and I’ve adopted it as my motto.

In considering this, I’ve realised I have much more than I thought, have skills I’ve forgotten, and can readily use them where I am.  Also I don’t go out and spend money and waste time on more “stuff”.

So I’m dusting off the 20 plus years of music study, my keyboard and considering making Little Miss a lullabye CD all of her own.  Plus maybe some relaxation music for the clinic.  See those three  years of uni might just pay off after all.  (BTW, I studied music as uni.  Scary isn’t it.)  Maybe I should make up some CDs for christmas gifts too while I’m at it….

I’ll keep you posted.
