In the last three days we have had 300% increase in traffic.  Maybe I should support (sorry) the cause more often…

Still, the world keeps turning and I’ve been working.  Always a good thing.  Most people complain about going to work but I love it and getting paid is a bonus.  Which is something I’ve been thinking about lately.  So I ask you, what job would you happily do, even if you didn’t get paid?

When I was studying my diploma we were told massage can only be worked on a part time basis.  This is mainly to prevent injury and needing more massages than you give.  The most I could ever work on clients is 25 hours a week.  This doesn’t include the time I take cleaning, paper working and linen washing.  I’m telling you this as a result of a conversation  yesterday.  Another natural therapist and I were discussing what we charge for a session.  I charged more than her and she looked surprised that I get clients.  Why do I charge more?  Simple, I can’t work full time hours but have the same bills as everyone else, I have spent time post training to increase my knowledge in my specialised field, and because I’m worth every cent!  This is not a vanity thing either.  In fact I charge less than the local beauty therapists charge for a relaxation massage but I have more skills.  I genuinely care about all my clients and you do get what you pay for.  My massages can potentially be claimed back on private health insurance too.

So what are you worth?  Are you charging your customers and clients enough?

Ask and you shall recieve

Hi again.

Been an interesting week leading up to starting work again.  Actually in truth, I didn’t really not stop working.  I just didn’t see clients face to face.  Anyway, in the last couple of days I’ve been looking into ways of marketing my wonderful massages and an expo is coming up in a couple of months that would be perfect.  Only problem was the cost.  So when they rang me to have a chat to see if I could book in, I told them up front and honest, that I couldn’t afford to have a stall.  An hour later I get a call back offering me a discount.  Still too much.  Twenty minutes later I’m called again this time with a way to get my fee back plus some profit.  Great that was the plan anyway but I still didn’t have the cash up front.  For now, I’m not booked in but should I get the cash I need to be successful at the event, I’ll book in straight away.

I learnt that if you don’t blunder around and tell the truth, sometimes people are willing to help you.

Now, for round two.

I need your help.  I’m wanting to purchase a new piece of equipment and take up a stall at the expo.  To do this, I need people to either book in and have massages or buy a package or more.  You can even buy them as gifts.

In other news, it’s going to be really hot in the next week and I’m truly grateful for the ducted air-con.

Happy New Year!!

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Well it’s begun.  2010 has arrived and I spent it at a country hospital with severe tonsillitis.  Not such a great start.  Gotta get better from now on.

We have returned from the home land to find two very excited dogs and a thunderstorm.  I missed the puppies and my bed and my bathroom and my kitchen.  Well I missed my home.  Tomorrow I’ll probably miss my home town but that’s OK.

Little Miss really enjoyed her stay with Grandma and Pa.  She was painting and pasting with Grandma, inspecting Pa’s boat and even spent time with her Uncle Fred and her Old Grandmas.  Shame I was in bed sick.

So have any of you made resolutions for this year?  Or have you just set yourself some goals?

Here’s a short list of my goals for this year.

  • Good Health for my family and myself
  • More clients
  • A holiday for my family and myself
  • Eat properly

That’ll do for now.

Still looking for great names for the packages.  Go to www.handprintmassage.com to see what they’re about and email me the suggestions.

Computer woes

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

You may have noticed it’s been a few days since my last post.  Well, I managed to drop my laptop on it’s power connection and it’s off being repaired.  OOPS.

Using hubby’s computer in the mean time…

Been an interesting week since the last post.  Between my family visiting and the last of the baby massage classes for the year, time seems to be slipping away.

On the weekend I braved the kitchen and made gingerbread and fruitcake.  The shortbread is made up, it just needs to be rolled out and baked.  We’ll see how that turns out.

In the massage world, starting to have a bit of a look at a new piece of equipment.  It’s so I can massage pregnant mums face down.  From all accounts, it’s fantastic.  Will keep you posted.  I’m also reading up on massage for fertility and it’s effects.  The obvious one is stress relief but surely there are other benefits too.

Just a little reminder of package names.  Please post your ideas.  Someone has suggested Well Kneaded Time Out which is appealing.  Keep them coming.

Today at lunch

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Isn’t funny how you have moments of clarity and genius, then two seconds later, you forget what it was.  Well that happened to me today at lunch.

Lunch was with the wonderful bad/real mums club.  Fabulous food, great conversation and well needed time out for me.  Sadly, I wish I was still there as Little Miss has been getting on my nerves ever since I got home.

Anyway.  What was I going to say?  Nope gone again.

That’s it!  I have a selection of packages available and I think they need some really funky names.  Something along the lines of time out, pampering, melting away, you get the idea.  Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Once we have a few suggestions there will be a poll to decide the titles and the person who suggested the name will win a package of 5 massages.   So start thinking.

Looking forward to the suggestions.
